Seahorses are taught by Mrs Mabbott and the team! It is a KS2 class.
This half term in PSHE we will begin by exploring physical health and wellbeing, focusing on the choices we make and the factors that influence them. We will discuss how making healthy choices can support our wellbeing and learn about the importance of making informed decisions. We will also learn about radicalisation and how to stay safe by recognising when something does not feel right and knowing who to talk to. Following this, we will focus on water safety and learn how to keep ourselves safe around different bodies of water. Finally, we will continue our learning about online safety, with a particular focus on cyberbullying and how to stay safe and respectful online.
This half term we will begin by exploring The Hodgeheg by Dick King-Smith. Using this text as inspiration, we will write a sequel, creating our own exciting continuation of the story. We will then move on to non-fiction writing, where we will create explanation texts linked to our learning in Science. Later in the term, we will explore free verse poetry using a selection of poems from The Works by Paul Cookson. We will experiment with language, rhythm and imagery before creating and performing our own poems.
In Maths, we will begin by learning about time. We will practise telling and writing the time from analogue clocks, using Roman numerals, reading 12- and 24-hour clocks, and comparing durations of events. We will also learn about seconds, minutes, hours, days, months and leap years. Following this, we will explore decimals and money, learning how to make a whole, write and compare decimals, and understand the relationship between fractions and decimals.
This half term in Science, we will be learning about living things and their habitats. We will focus on grouping and classifying living things using observable characteristics. We will learn how scientists use classification keys to identify and sort organisms and explore the similarities and differences between a range of plants and animals. We will also investigate how environments can change and consider the impact this can have on living things.
During Geography, we will be exploring hills and mountains. We will locate significant hills and mountain ranges in the UK and around the world, investigate how mountains are formed and identify their key features. We will also compare mountain environments and consider how people use and adapt to these landscapes.
This half term in RE we will be exploring the question: "How do different people express their spirituality?" We will learn about a range of religious and non-religious worldviews, including Buddhism, Christianity, Hindu Dharma, Islam and Sikhism. We will investigate the different ways people express their beliefs, values and spirituality through prayer, worship, meditation, festivals, acts of service and daily practices. We will also consider non-religious perspectives and reflect on what gives meaning and purpose to people's lives. Throughout the unit, we will compare similarities and differences between beliefs and explore how spirituality can be expressed in many different ways.
Alongside all of this fantastic learning, we will continue to develop our skills through art, DT, PE, music, computing and food technology. For more information, please see the long-term plan (LTP) and our class social media page for regular updates and celebrations of learning.
